Earlier this spring, Brit musician Kindness released World, You Need a Change of Mind, his (often) acclaimed, bouncing-all-over-the-place LP that spanned disco, R&B, The Replacements, new jack swing, and yes, go-go. His track “That’s Alright” is practically a remix of Trouble Funk‘s bombastic hit “Still Smokin’“—-a tribute that may have gone right over the heads of listeners outside of D.C.

So just to make the connection between “That’s Alright” and Trouble Funk perfectly clear, Kindness and the legendary go-go band got together to make a music video for Kindness’ single. They filmed it at the U Street Music Hall on July 15. Watch it below.

In a press release sent today, Kindness says there’s even more where that came from:

We’re in the process of putting together a documentary piece to accompany this video—-between them, Big Tony and Tee Bone, both founder members of Trouble Funk have 68 years of playing time under their belts, and that’s with this one band alone. They tell the story of go-go better than I can, and those with an interest in what they’re doing should reach out to them directly.
