I always walk away from a Lucero show thinking how the Memphis band is able to make every gig feel like a house party full of friends. I've seen them in small places like Ottobar, on outdoor stages at South by Southwest, and the Black Cat. And while the 9:30 Club feels a bit more formal than those venues, Lucero's Wednesday show captured the same revelry. The band took requests from the audience, sampled drinks from the stage, and even stopped in the middle of a song to address some folks fighting in the crowd. Lucero have been road dogs long enough to know their fans got them to this point, and nice enough guys to appreciate it. As Lucero bassist John C. Stubblefield said: "It's Wednesday night, but when you wake up on Thursday and don't want to get up, remember Lucero loves you, and everything's gonna be all right."
