The last time we heard from Laura Burhenn, the former Georgie James member and D.C. expat was prepping to tour the world with Bright Eyes. That was following the debut of her group Mynabirds, What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood, a torchy, soulful affair in the Dusty Springfield vein.

Mynabirds are back in June with GENERALS, their second album on Saddle Creek Records. The first single, “Generals,” is just as churchy as much of What We Lose, if also huge and martial and generally full of swagger, which is a whole other kind of pop trope.
