The winners of the 26th annual Wammies have been announced. And with that, I return to my nap.

But wait! Maybe not just yet. It looks like a couple of categories in the typically snoozy Washington Area Music Awards have undergone much-needed shock therapy. For one, arts-establishment darling Yoko K. (pictured) has stolen “Electronica Artist” from the cashmere-gloved grip of Thievery Corporation. In the DJ category, Jesse Tittsworth and relative newcomer DJ Jackie O. have swooped in and nabbed the prize, leaving perennial winners Bob Mould and Rich Morel, well, probably not giving a crap, but kudos to them anyway.

In the modern-rock categories, more indie-rock groups (More Humans, Office of Future Plans, US Royalty) were nominated, but none won; overall, singer/songwriter Jon Carroll is the big winner, taking home an award for best pop rock instrumentalist (again), musician of the year (again), and songwriter of the year. It’s nice to see Afro Blue walk away with best a capella group, best video (for “Nature Boy“), and the spotlight award—-that ensemble put in a heap of work last year. Christylez Bacon won best rapper over Fat Trel, Kokayi, Tabi Bonney, and several other big talents; meanwhile, Wale‘s mixtape The Eleven One Eleven Theory won best hip-hop recording, while his actual LP (Ambition) didn’t even garner a nomination.
