Mad Decent Releases Digital Moombahton Remixes EP

Moom-butt-on: The latest moombahton release has arrived.

Diplo's Mad Decent label has come out with another moombahton release, Moombahton Remixes, but this one is a digital-only EP available exclusively through Legitmix.

The EP includes moombahton mixes of some intimidatingly high-profile material: Michael Jackson's "Thriller," Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain," Jay-Z and Kanye West's "Niggas in Paris," and Foster the People's "Pumped-Up Kicks." To skirt the high cost and hassle of clearing those tracks, the release is only available on the website, which claims to provide a legal, profitable means to distribute tracks that sample copyrighted works. (In short: You have to purchase the songs they sample.)

As far as the music goes, my moombahton haterade has already stained the Washington City Paper's pages. Listening to these tracks only confirms my skepticism. (And the cheeky cover? Further evidence—was it needed?—that Mad Decent's taste level lies somewhere between Cash Money and the Bang Bros Network.) But one interesting note: This release includes Dave Nada's original bedrock-laying "Moombahton"—the remix that launched a thousand imitators.
