D.C. Jazz Festival: CapitalBop Joins the Festivities

CapitalBopLast December, D.C. jazz advocacy project CapitalBop graduated from mere website to concert promoter with its D.C. Jazz Loft, a decidedly non-virtual gathering of musicians for performances at the Red Door loft. Now, it's carrying that aspect a step farther, partnering with the D.C. Jazz Festival to present a full series of Jazz Loft performances in the opening and closing days of the Festival.

This series has a new twist on the Jazz Loft concept: Rather than focus solely on homegrown talent, it combines that it with some of the finest, most explorative names on the national scene, including J.D. Allen, Darius Jones, and Tomas Fujiwara & the Hookup. They'll be joining forces with the local likes of Brian Settles, Amy Bormet, Elijah Balbed, the Jolley Brothers, and bassist and CapitalBop co-editor Luke Stewart. Also new: The concerts will take place at three different Washington venues, not just the Red Door in Mount Vernon Square. The first performance is  at the Fridge on Capitol Hill; the last at Subterranean A in Logan Circle; and the two in between at Red Door.

The series is part of the DCJF's "Jazz in the Hoods" program. Tickets are available here; the full is schedule after the break.
