Hi Mike,
Interesting piece about the summit. Just wanted to let you know that we launched a new (print and online) music magazine in April, The Journal of Music, and publish high-quality music writing across all genres. I'd be happy to send you a copy if you'd like to see it. Please visit our website: http://www.journalofmusic.com
Regards,
Toner Quinn

Hi Mike, it strikes me that our panel broke down not on new vs. old media but rather publishers vs. writers, which always leaves editors in the middle. The internet is good -- for many, many things that could contribute to good music coverage. The internet business model has truly sucked for anyone who doesn't have a tangible product that can be sold in another form -- i.e., musicians who are selling their performances besides their recordings can do ok, but if the expression of ideas itself is your product, and you deliver it through a system that makes it free, don't expect a check in the mail. The old system didn't guarantee great writing or profitable publishing, either, and was rife with collusion, ego, redundancy, mediocrity. Little of that has vanished. A Christgau is sure to arise from web-writing (and what is Bob renowned for? His editing more than his writing; his Consumer Guides more than his long essays; his staying power rather than anything he ever has championed) -- will the new Christgau be content to write album blurbs and create aps (the old Christgau is tech-resistant). PS -- thanks for your comment on my blog posting about the panel, at www.artsjournal.com/jazzbeyondjazz.
