His name is actually Elijah-Jamal Balbed, but he sometimes uses Elijah Jamal as a stage name. Just because it's cool. Kinda like Ahmad Jamal :-)

This is very confusing! On his Web site, Jamal/Balbed mostly calls himself Elijah Jamal. But he seems to be booked mostly as Elijah Balbed. I asked Mike to call him, and he told Mike Jamal was his middle name but he was OK with being referred to either way. At least this is my understanding. And fodder for Mike's next blog post!
