Friday: Landover Laser Light Go-Go?

delafront

The go-go is basically a black rave. Partying until the wee hours in the morning, people passing out, repetition, drugs (probably?). Tomorrow night that connection will get a little more explicit with the first (probably?), oh yes, LIGHT SHOW GO-GO at Landover's De La Swan Auditorium.

Now I'm not sure if it will be a full scale, Pink Floyd-style laser light show or just two kids holding glow sticks. Or maybe they are just being mad metaphorical and referencing their jewelry ala the titular Gucci Mane hit. There is one way to find out – drive to Landover tomorrow night.

Is this racist? Has the author "otherized" go-go poster art to make a slight joke, like suburban stoners enjoying "Friday?" Why is the word "Landover" italicized, as if to imply that no one, in their right mind, would ever go to Landover, an African-American community? Is the author's use of the phrase "the go-go" colloquially correct? If "the go-go" is a "black rave," shouldn't this piece compare rave and go-go culture instead of comparing go-go culture to Pink Floyd suburban stoner light show culture?

"The Go-Go" is colloquially correct. I would have expected someone with such a passionate investment in defending this culture to have already known that.

I italicized Landover because it is far from where I imagine most of this blog's readership resides. Maybe that's a misconception on my part, but it probably isn't.

Friday was a good movie and should be enjoyed by everyone.

Am I racist against ravers? Possibly.

You made that flyer out to be way bigger than it is. Its called a theme. No need for the racist remarks. This is our music, and we like to go shows with different things. We dont follow trends of rock parties with glow sticks and drugs. Police & security are at every gogo event.
