Flaming Lips Headline Free Earth Day Show On The Mall
Flaming Lips will be headlining an Earth Day concert on the Mall this Sunday. The event is free. The Lips will be joined by openers Los Lobos, DJ Spooky, moe, the Joy of Motion’s teen-dance company Urban Impact. Just in case you thought the show would be celebrity free, Chevy Chase will be on hand to host, and Matthew Modine will be a guest speaker. What’s the probability of Chase trotting out his old Gerald Ford pratfall routines? Maybe the Lips will do a really fuzzed-out cover of the Vacation theme song.
I did not like the Lips’ last album at all. But, well, The Soft Bulletin, is still such a sweet record if you forget about all the shilling the band has done in recent years. One of their songs now sells salad dressing (which I guess is sort of Earth Day-ish).
Is anybody pumped about this Chevy-Chase-Flaming-Lips show?

The show starts at noon… Flaming Lips probably won’t be on til much later since there are 4 openers.
