Off Beat Blends – De La Soul and 9th Wonder at MCCXXIII – 3/20

DeLaFlyer

Grammy-winning hip-hop legends De La Soul will be at MCCXXIII on Thursday, March 20th. Special DJ set by 9th Wonder–the original producer/DJ from Little Brother who has also worked with Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige and a number of underground hip hop acts.

Thursday at MCCXXIII is usually an 18-and-over hip-hop/dance night called Spank, which leads me to wonder how this show will go over with the millenials. Especially given the fact that De La is about as old school you can get while still being relevant and 9th Wonder tends to spin a hip-hop set that relies heavily on golden era nostalgia. Interesting, this will all be very interesting…

9th confuses me–he’s been doing these solo DJ sets lately, but he never deigned to serve as tour DJ for Little Brother when he was with them. Why not? I don’t get it.

Good point about 9th, I’ve been to many LB shows and never seen him there, oh well, as long as he gives us a good set of that Tru School isshh I’ll be ok. Any idea if they will enforce the dress code at 1223? I can’t imagine bammas in blazers and dress shoes to see De La…dress codes are the worst.

    yo, FUCK MCCXXIII.

The door people there are on some bullshit.

4 of my friends and I waited in line for damn near 2 hours to get in, and were decided that they wanted to charge an extra $20 for whatever they felt like…

Fuck that broke-ass light-skinned Tavis Smiley lookin’ nigga with the Coogi jacket who was part of the wack-ass front door crew.

I ain’t ever goin’ to that spot

Oh all the things I could have said in this post – i should have mentioned that 1223 is one of the worst venues in town when it comes to the door policy.

I wanna know who promoted it…

Over an hour standing in line, BULLSHIT. The door people are awful, I guess they have no idea what they’re doing. But the show was great nonetheless.
