On “Summer Mood,” from Best Coast’s first album Crazy For You, frontwoman Bethany Cosentino reminds us that “there’s something about the summer.” A fitting motto for a band who, at the time, made fuzzy, often frantic music directly inspired by its overwhelming love for California and cats. Since then, Best Coast’s chipper, upbeat melodies have mixed with darker lyrics and a noirish L.A. vibe, while retaining Cosentino’s dry, removed vocal delivery that brought it early attention.
