While many of the playwrights participating in the Women’s Voices Theater Festival have established careers, organizers also aim to engage a younger generation of writers, which is where Karen Zacarías comes in. The local theater professional has already seen her play, Destiny of Desire, open at Arena Stage and now turns her attention to her other passion project, the Young Playwrights’ Theater. Four female writers between the ages of 12 and 22 first crafted their plays as part of YPT’s In-School Playwriting Program; at Sidney Harman Hall, professional actors will bring their fairy tales and love stories to life.
