ToDo ToDay: “Postcards from the Trenches,” Third World, and Molly
If you’ve spent any time studying World War I, you’ll remember that soldiers spent much of their time hiding from the enemy in trenches. But what did they do down there when they weren’t firing weapons? Some, it turns out, were painting scenes from the front lines and sending them as postcards to loved ones back home. A new touring exhibition sponsored by the German Foreign Office, “Postcards From the Trenches,” features 50 of these cards painted by Dresden artist and soldier Otto Schubert as well as wartime scenes commissioned by the U.S. Army. Read more >>> The exhibition is on view Tuesdays to Fridays noon to 4 p.m. to Sept. 27 at Pepco Edison Gallery, 702 8th St. NW. Free. (202) 872-3396. germany.info. (Caroline Jones)
