ToDo ToDay: Vacationer and Pisco Wars
Vacationer claim to be the “Eastern Seaboard’s foremost relaxation specialists” in press materials, but the Philly- and Brooklyn-based group’s breezy Caribbean beats are just as infectious on a club’s dance floor as they are poolside. Inspired by lead singer/bassist Kenny Vasoli’s love of Polynesian and Tropicália records, Vacationer’s music bounces between light-hearted guitar riffs, dreamy electronic beats, and cheerful ukuleles to achieve what Vasoli jokingly calls a “Nu-Hula” sound. Listen long enough, and you just might find yourself lounging with the sand between your toes in a blissed-out daydream. Mixologists from Del Campo, Room 11, Farmers Fishers Bakers, Art & Soul, City Tap House, and the Gibson will compete for the title of King (or Queen) of Pisco at the Liaison Capitol Hill’s rooftop beginning at 6 p.m. The event, hosted by Washington City Paper, will also include food from Art & Soul.
