ToDo ToDay: Trans Am, Deleted Scenes, and Jellyfish Eyes
Twenty-four years on, Maryland-formed post-rock outfit Trans Am is a vocoder band in a post-Auto-Tune world, but they’re still a lithe and propulsive machine, churning through several generations’ visions of the future. On Volume X, dystopian funk melts into Kraftwerkian synth workouts; there’s a robotic mouth solo that would make Peter Frampton jealous. As always, the band is too smart and forceful for its deadpan genre-mashing to translate as just jokey—the thrash-metal theatrics of “Backlash” may make you smile, but you’ll be head-banging in your cubicle, too. Read more >>> Trans Am performs with Heavy Breathing at 8 p.m. at Black Cat Backstage, 1811 14th St. NW. $12. (202) 667-4490. blackcatdc.com. (Jonathan L. Fischer)
Where can you find Bolivian, Cambodian, and Turkish food all in one place? The new G Street Food, opening today near McPherson Square. The restaurant already has locations near the White House and south of Dupont Circle, but this is the first that has a full-service dinner menu, in addition to the fast casual breakfast and lunch. The menu includes everything from Bolivian saltenas to Tuscan fried sardines to Thai long bean “pokpok” to American pulled pork. Booze is also very affordable, with no cocktail more than $9 and plenty of bottles of wine under $30. Don’t forget to check out the interesting list of international beers, too. Read more and check out the menus on Young & Hungry. G Street Food, 1030 15th St. NW. (202) 842-8484. gstreetfood.com. (Jessica Sidman)
