Columbia Heights art gallery and performance venue the Dunes will close at the end of the month. In an email sent two weeks ago, forwarded to Arts Desk by the organizers of the Encyclopedia Show, the venue’s management informed regular performers that its landlord had other plans for the property at 1400 Meridian Place NW and would not renew the Dunes’ lease.

Although general manager Ra-Jah Kelly declined to speak to Arts Desk, the Dunes’ team wrote in the same email that “we hope to continue our work in another location should the opportunity present itself.”

Since opening in 2012, The Dunes has hosted a variety of art exhibitions, dance parties, and indie rock concerts. Wednesday’s concert featuring Pree, Native America, and the Sea Life will continue as scheduled. Judson Lewis, co-producer of the Encyclopedia Show, says his show will go on after taking a brief hiatus to find a new home.
