Human Maze Comes to National Building Museum This Summer

Approaching

Aside from its impressive architecture and design exhibits, the National Building Museum prides itself on its slightly off-kilter activities that entertain visitors throughout the year. For the past two summers, the museum has invited local builders to create unique miniature golf courses for the young (and young at heart) and, last year, welcomed Hill Country's Backyard Barbecue to its West Lawn.

This summer, guests will have the opportunity to get lost within the museum when the "BIG Maze" opens on July 4. The human maze is a 61-foot square that measures 18 feet high and is named for the Bjarke Ingels Group, which designed it. It marks the museum's first collaboration with the group and acts as a preview for amBIGuity, a new exhibition that explores the firm's work and opens at the museum in October.

Building Museum executive director Chase W. Rynd expressed excitement about the collaboration in a press release, saying the maze "offers our visitors a chance to physically interact with the work of a cutting-edge, international design firm." Check out renderings of the maze below—it looks much more exciting than any corn or haybale human mazes you've explored in the past.
