Photos: ShamrockFest 2014
For the past several years, the annual ShamrockFest at RFK Stadium has been characterized by rainy, cold weather as much as its trademark drunken idiocy. This year, the festival bucked the former trend at least, and the public inebriation took place under bright sun and warm temperatures.
It does seem the festival is suffering in some ways, though, with no big-name bookings aside from Dropkick Murphys and with a bizarre setup that crammed three stages in close to each other and left a wide swath of unused pavement on the other side of the festival grounds. The decision to end alcohol sales at 8 p.m. (a full three hours before the festival's closing) also enraged some fans, though I'm sure neighborhood residents subject to serial pissing problems would probably be supportive of that particular policy.
None of this, even the alcohol shutdown at 8 p.m., seemed like much of a concern for the fans crammed in front of the stages and in the DJ tent, though. Festival organizers have the weather gods to thank for that.
