ToDo ToDay: Small Black, Speedy Ortiz, and Muskrat Stew
Brooklyn chillwave (but don’t let them hear you call it that) band Small Black emerged in 2009 with the type of synthy pop music fans craved that year. The band drops a new EP,Real People, on April 1 and its first single, “Lines of Latitude,” is a rich tapestry of synths, bass, and moody vocals. When they kick off their spring tour at Rock & Roll Hotel tonight, expect the band members to dish out melancholic verses over lush guitars and pounding percussion. Ever wonder what muskrat tastes like? How about beaver? Try both at Rocklands Barbecue and Grilling Company’s four locations through March 8 as part of its “Grills Gone Wild” event. The muskrat, which apparently tastes like duck, is used in a Brunswick stew, and the beaver meat is stuffed in sausages. You’ll also find grilled chicken gizzards and blue catfish.
