ToDo ToDay: TV Ghost, Eugene Mirman, and Pappy Van Winkle


In terms of linear time, everything current is post-punk. The label, however, is still tossed around to describe bands that capture the artier, more expansive, and psychedelic sound that grew out of its predecessor. Indiana’s TV Ghost actually sounds like it could have existed in 1981, capturing not just the general musical approach but also its strange tonality, simultaneously tense and atmospheric. Restaurant and cigar bar Shelly's Back Room now has Pappy Van Winkle, a favorite of bourbon fanatics. Only a handful of bars in the area carry the spirit from Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery in Kentucky. Shelly's has eight bottles—10-, 12-, and 15-year bourbons plus the rarer 20- and 23-year varieties.
