ToDo ToDay: Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog, (e)merge, and holychild

ribot

What helps make Marc Ribot unique among the thousands of high-quality ax slingers performing today are his limitations. He’s a lefty playing right-handed, which means his nondominant hand is strumming and plucking the strings. So when Ribot plays jazz, he’s not smooth; when he plays Cuban music, the roughest edges of the rhythm get highlighted, and when he’s playing with his avant-rock trio Ceramic Dog, Ribot dives straight into the chaos without sounding particularly punk, metal, or anything but his singular, slashing, freewheeling self. EAT THIS

Rose's Luxury is now open in Barracks Row. The restaurant comes from chef Aaron Silverman, an alum of McCrady's in South Carolina and Momofuku Noodle Bar in New York. On the menu, you'll find small plates broken into cold, warm and grill, pasta, and "other goods" sections with dishes like popcorn soup, fennel-stuffed gnocchi, and fried eggplant with melted feta and honey. Larger family-style dishes ($24-$27) include grilled clams, smoked brisket, and a Southern-style chicken with "trimmins."
