ToDo ToDay: The Feedel Band, New Belgium Beers, and Italian Glam Rock
Since 1997 the Éthiopiques series has made Ethiopian music a hipster obsession, exposing jazz heads and rockists to the jazzy funkiness that emanated from East Africa in the ’60s and ’70s. Tonight, local listeners get a chance to hear a sliver of those tunes live in a performance by D.C.’s The Feedel Band. The group features saxophonist Moges Habte, who was born in Addis Ababa, and can be heard performing the funky James Brown Band-influenced cut “Muziqawi Silt” on Éthiopiques’ Volume 13 with his ’70s group The Walias Band. Read more >>> The Feedel Band performs with DJ Tommy T at 8 p.m. at Tropicalia, 2001 14th St. NW. $10. (202) 629-4535. tropicaliadc.com. (Steve Kiviat)
Throughout August, Mellow Mushroom in Adams Morgan is donating 50 cents from every pint and $2 from every pitcher to Miriam's Kitchen, which works to end chronic homelessness in D.C. Tonight, the pizza spot is hosting a beer tasting with New Belgium Brewing Company, during which guests can buy $5 raffle tickets for the chance to win a bike. All the proceeds from the raffle tickets will also be donated to Miriam's Kitchen. Mellow Mushroom, 2436 18th St. NW. (202) 290-2778. mellowmushroom.com. (Jessica Sidman)
