ToDo ToDay: Baby Universe! Women in Theatre!

If you don’t regularly spend time with humans under the age of 10, the last time you watched puppetry might have more than a decade ago. Studio Theatre toys with the form in Wakka Wakka Production’s magical, bizarre Baby Universe. As civilization lies on its deathbed, the puppet planets have abandoned hope. Now, a government program attempts to create an infant universe: a planet, nursed by an aging spinster, that can support a new population. Pearl Dive Oyster Palace is hosting a month-long pie sale. Get a Fourth of July pie to go and eat it in front of the fireworks. Pies ($25–$30) include flavors like key lime, strawberry rhubarb, peach crisp, and Brazos River Bottom pecan pie with Texan pecans and rum and bourbon-infused custard. Chef Carri-Anne Hamer is also making blueberry handpies as part of her special fried chicken dinner buckets, sold from July 4 through July 6. Washington Women in Theatre celebrates its 10th anniversary with a collection of new works by local women. Things kick off tonight with a double-header of Ayoka Chenzira's Funnel Cake Flowers & The Urban Chameleons, a live-action autobiography, and Linda Sherbert's Showhouse, about an interior designer who aspires to create the perfect space while working with her ex-husband and his new mistress. 8 p.m. at the Katzen Art Center, 4400 Massachusetts Ave. NW. $10–$12.

Enjoy a night of local music at Velvet Lounge, with performances by Molly Hagen, Parker Smith and the Bandwith, Y Wonder and the Wonder Whys, and The Unruly. 8 p.m. at  915 U St. NW. $8–$10.

Mix music genres tonight at Tropicalia; "Shrub" night promises a blend of rap, rock, and reggae. 8 p.m. at 2001 14th St. NW. $5.
