ToDo ToDay: Ian MacKaye! SISU!

Fugazi
and The Evens frontman Ian MacKaye is a punk-rock icon, yeah, but he’s also one hell of an archivist. In addition to building a vast collection of physical media, MacKaye has also digitized tons of it and made it accessible to the public through Dischord Records and projects like the Fugazi Live Series. So it’s no surprise his work caught the attention of the Library of Congress, which has asked him to give a talk about his work collecting and archiving D.C. music and punk culture. Read more >>> Ian MacKaye speaks at 6 p.m. at the Library of Congress’ James Madison Memorial Building, 101 Independence Ave. SE. Free. (202) 707-5000. loc.gov. (Sarah A. Ventre)

EAT THIS

Nopa Kitchen + Bar is now open in Penn Quarter. The American brasserie comes from restaurateur Ashok Bajaj, who also owns fine dining establishments like Rasika, Oval Room, and Bibiana. Chef Greg McCarty's menu may have fried chicken and steaks, but you'll also find a bit of an Asian flare. After all, he previously worked for Nobu 57 in New York. Instead of salt, McCarty often utilizes miso. He'll also make nukazuke pickles, a Japanese-style fermented vegetable made with rice-husk paste. The menu includes charcuterie and raw bar sections as well as dishes like crispy soft shell crab with avocado basil puree; ancho chili-glazed baby-back ribs; and rockfish with andouille and fennel broth. Nopa Bar + Kitchen, 800 F St. NW. (202) 347-4667. nopadc.com.
