ToDo ToDay: Generationals! EMP Collective! The Red Hen!

Summer’s on the horizon and for some, it brings the desire to listen to sunny, ‘60s-influenced indie pop. Generationals, the New Orleans duo made up of Ted Joyner and Grant Widmer, is here to help. The band’s latest album, Heza, released earlier this month, is chock-full of danceable rhythms and fuzzy vocals. Yeah, at least one of them will end up in a car commercial or in the background of some oh-so-hip TV show, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying it. Read more >>> Generationals performs with Splashh at 8:30 p.m. at Rock & Roll Hotel, 1353 H St. NE. $12. (202) 388-7625. rockandrollhoteldc.com. (May Wildman)

EAT THIS

The Red Hen is now open in Bloomingdale, serving Italian-influenced American cuisine from a wood-fired grill. The hearth, which is the centerpiece of the open kitchen, is used for smoking and grilling meats and vegetables, but also slow-roasting ricotta cheese and creating smoked aioli with burning embers. The menu includes dishes like roasted scallops with calamari, squid ink, chard, and smoked aioli; gnocchi alla Romana with hazelnut pesto; and wood grilled hen. Former Proof wine director Sebastian Zutant is in charge of the beverage program, which includes 100 bottles of wine all under $60 and seasonally changing cocktails.
