ToDo ToDay: Lar Lubovitch Dance Company! Commedia Dell’Arte Christmas!

It looks like a typo on the Kennedy Center’s schedule but it’s not a mistake: The 44-year-old Lar Lubovitch Dance Company makes its debut at the center tonight. Since 1968, Lubovitch has been quietly choreographing ballets, figure-skating routines, and Broadway musicals, all while running his own company. In these recent recession years, Lubovitch has grown his flock by luring dancers away from better-known companies, like Alvin Ailey and Mark Morris. The result is a troupe both beautiful and formidable. Read more >>> The company performs tonight and Friday at 8 p.m. at the Kennedy Center’s Eisenhower Theater, 2700 F St. NW. $22-$65. OH AND ALSO

December is nigh—and the holiday shows are already upon us. Faction of Fools'  take on holiday fare, though, is a little outside the box: The theater company's "A Commedia Christmas Carol" is based on Dickens' book, but true to Faction of Fools' style, goes a little loopy with masks and acrobatics. It starts tonight with a pay-what-you-can preview. The pay-what-you-can preview begins at 8 p.m. at the Elstad Auditorium at Gallaudet University, 800 Florida Ave. NE.

Lar Lubovitch Dance Company - Of all the dance companies I have seen over the past years this one is a sleeper. The music is terrible, the dancers might be great but the choreography is terrible. Should have left after the first sequence. The routines showed that he choreographs for skaters. Can't wait for the rest of the season, it can only get better.
