ToDo ToDay: The Make-Up and Disgusting Food

Any rockist who's slouched cross-armed in the vicinity of a D.C. stage over the last decade understands that, for a time, The Make-Up was D.C.'s finest live (non-go go) act. These days, frontman Ian Svenonius occupies himself with the increasingly great Chain & the Gang, but this spring he got the old band back together for an appearance at All Tomorrow's Parties, and from there, it kind of snowballed: They played a show under a fake band name at Comet in May, the band has a reissue coming out this week, and tonight, they headline the Black Cat for a good and proper local reunion show.

The Make-Up plays with Coup Sauvage and The Snips and DJ Kid Congo Powers at 8 p.m. at Black Cat, 1811 14th St. NW. $15.

EAT THIS

The Turkish Coffee Truck Lady is giving away free coffee through the end of September as part of Turkish Cultural Heritage Month. The goal is to raise awareness of Turkish coffee culture and "bring our two societies even closer together through our mutual love of coffee," says the coffee truck's founder Gizem Salcigil White. Today, you can grab a cup at 1010 Vermont Ave. NW from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The truck will move on to new locations each day, and you can track its schedule here. The coffee-palooza leads up to the Turkish Festival on Sept. 30. (Jessica Sidman)

OH AND ALSO

Food zine Runcible Spoon is usually twee, but tonight it embraces the disgusting: Join the zinemakers at their release party for "The Gross Issue," which explores disgusting stuff like "Maggot Poop Cheese," hospital cuisine, and meat cake. Nasty food served! 6 p.m. at Kafe Bohem, 602 Florida Ave. NW. Free.
