ToDo ToDay: Chromatics and Lots of Local Music!

ChromaticsChromatics have come a long way since their first records, which typified the kind of post-punk racket that wouldn’t have felt out of place at a D.C. basement show in the early 2000s. Since the band’s major left turn toward sleek, hypnotic disco with 2007’s Night Drive LP, Chromatics have fit in nicely with the rest of the smart, hip dance music on their label Italians Do It Better. Chromatics perform with Protect-U at 8:30 p.m. at Rock & Roll Hotel, 1353 H St. NE. rockandrollhoteldc.com. (202) 388-7625. Update: This show has sold out. Lots of local music after the jump.

OH AND ALSO

Shut out of the sold-out Chromatics show? Not a problem. There's more cool (and local!) music happening elsewhere, like Deathfix at Fort Reno, the Misun EP release show at U Street Music Hall (listen to the EP on Arts Desk), hardcore punx Supreme Commander's release show at DC9, and ESL reggae ensemble The Archives at Millennium Stage (listen to them on Soundcloud).

Or, just catch the flawed but entertaining The Dark Knight Rises at midnight. See showtimes.

EAT THIS

Celebrate National Daiquiri Day the Ernest Heming-way. In honor of the Lost Generation author’s 113th birthday, Cuba Libre chef Guillermo Pernot recreated some of the cocktails and dishes from Hemingway’s favorite Cuban restaurant, El Floridita. From purple taro root to chino-glazed beef, tonight’s El Floridita-inspired menu features $4 small plates and $5 drinks during the restaurant’s happy hour from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. There’s also a $39 prix fixe menu that’s available through July 22, with entrees like lobster velouté soup and Papa Hemingway sorbeto. Cuba Libre, 801 9th St. NW. (202) 408-1600. cubalibrerestaurant.com.
