ToDo ToDay: “Take It to the Bridge” at the Corcoran
Life must go on at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, despite the unease that has settled over the institution since news broke that it is considering selling its historic Flagg Building and moving elsewhere. “Take It to the Bridge,” a program that could only work in that space, won’t be going anywhere. A summer performance series planned by artist Holly Bass and architectural designer Kashuo Bennett for the transom over the Corcoran’s glass entrance, the shows on the Performance Bridge will see artists Chajana denHarder, Kathryn Cornelius, and Carolina Mayorga—whose Sept. 1 performance, “Maid in the USA,” will address stereotypes of Latinas in the United States—occupying the space on Saturdays and other select dates through mid-September. MORE >> “Take It to the Bridge,” co-presented by the Washington Project for the Arts, runs July 18 through Sept. 15 at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, 500 17th St. NW. Free admission Saturdays through Sept. 1; $10 for adult nonmembers Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. corcoran.org. (202) 639-1700. (Kriston Capps)
It's Belgian Restaurant Week, which means it's time to start drinking. Tonight, head to to Belga Cafe, Brabo, Brasserie Beck, Et Voila!, Granville Moore's, Locolat, Le Pain Quotidien, Marcel’s, Marvin, or Mussel Bar to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Chimay. After you've had your fill of the Trappist monastery beer, you'll get to take a collector glass home with you. If you're hungry for Belgian cuisine as well, one of your best bets is a four-course "Tour of Belgium" dinner with beer pairings at Belga Cafe for $59. Call the restaurant for reservations.
