Arts Roundup: Burporken Edition

There Will Be Wings: Red Palace is now serving food. The H Street NE venue is getting into the culinary game with a menu of bar-food staples. It's staple-y, in fact, that sandwiches are numerically listed—with the exception of No. 1, also known as the "burporken." Don't worry, though—there are vegan options, too.

Sackler Scrilla: It's a cash money birthday for the Freer-Sackler Gallery: Per the New York Times' Arts Beat blog, "Many philanthropists donate money to found an institution and then leave it up to officials to worry about the operating costs. Not Dame Jillian Sackler. On Tuesday, officials at the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery and the Freer Gallery of Art in Washington announced that Ms. Sackler had donated $5 million to establish an endowment to fund the director’s post and programs at the galleries that are named, in part, after her husband." The Asian art gallery turns 25 this year.

Sounds Like, Well, Velocity Girl: Need something to listen to? Stream this radio show, guest-DJed by members of Velocity Girl, from Dissonance, pirate station Radio CPR's "harDCore community radio" slot. The picks from Kelly Young and Brian Nelson (who's also a City Paper staffer) include Crystal Stilts, Orange Juice, and Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions. And, how appropriate—the Chickfactor 20-year anniversary shows have been announced.

Yesterday on Arts Desk: Internet-based, D.C.-focused radio stations! Other bands that should reunite! Yeah, O Street Studios is gonna be a youth hostel.
