This Week in WCP Arts: Spotify, Uncle Vanya, 30 Minutes or Less
The art section leads this week with my meditation on why indie artists and labels license their music to streaming services like Spotify, even though its royalties are insultingly puny. Chris Klimek raves about Chekhov's Uncle Vanya, whose Sydney Theatre Company production at the Kennedy Center stars Cate Blanchett and Huge Weaving. Film critic Tricia Olszewski is not impressed with a pair of twisted crime comedies, 30 Minutes or Less and The Guard. Lindsay Zoladz says the indie-folk debut of Gold Leaves doesn't try to stand out from its crowded field, but it's good enough. And in One Track Mind, Marcus K. Dowling chats with R&B singer Muhsinah about her left-field hard-rock turn.
