Arts Roundup: Last Days of August Edition

Good morning, D.C.! I'm sure we're all ready to kick the August doldrums out the door, but this week's temperatures could set records. There might be a hurricane, too. All that on top of paying more to get around via WMATA—awesome, right?

If it makes you feel better, we're the third-brainiest city (according to the questionably prolific rankings guru, Richard Florida). We're also a top online dating city (according to the purveyors of "real dates caught on film" commercials, Match.com). Find a correlation in that, if you're so inclined.

DCist explains the whole "Big G" vs. Vincent Gray thing ("Big G" is actually the actor that played Slim Charles on The Wire). These United States played for free at the Kennedy Center last night—there are always more sans-admission performances if you missed out. Whole Foods is screening the niche-ist (food, environmental issues) of those films slated for the upcoming D.C. Shorts Film Festival.
Here on Arts Desk, we look at the Google Street View/Arcade Fire collaboration, and chat with local cartoonist Rafer Roberts.
It's a slow day out there, but hey, at least August is almost over!
