If your regular T-shirts are mistaken for ironic ones, you begin sentences with “polls say…”, and you thought it was OK to see Avatar twice, because once was in 3D, it might be time to head on down to Nerd Nite at DC9.  Nerd Nite was born in Boston, reared in New York, and eventually rolled out in Austin, Munich, Germany, and last month, in Washington.  The event promises to be “like the Discovery Channel…with beer!” and is set to become a monthly affair.  This Saturday, well-trained nerds coached not to flee the spotlight will present on the brain imaging of fear (concluding with pictures of the brain), the history and science of volcanoes (concluding with the live eruption of a pyroclastic cone), and historic cemetery landscapes (concluding with dancing zombies in red leather).  Since any nerd event guarantees nonstop action, the Torches, a D.C.-based band, will sing, holler, and stomp while playing banjos, oboes, and harmonicas, during interludes.  Those who wear horn-rimmed glasses to be trendy will mingle with those who wear horn-rimmed glasses to see.
