You want me to repeat all the arguments discussed on 4 or 5 chatboards! I will give you an overview: First, they rarely provide liner notes or explanatory material saying where they got stuff from. Apparently the Washington Phillips and Skip James releases were just taken from other labels with no credit given. Now even if you want to say, well Yazoo is no longer printing many of those efforts (although the Skip James one is still in print) or allegedly is not compensating the artists or their estates, well it is not clear that the Missippi folks are either. The Irma Thomas release does not provide details on where it came from and it does not even say Missippi on it. Is she getting compensated or are they alleging that someone else has the rights to that material. Who knows? On one of those other threads someone asserts that in putting out the Thai Orchestra release they worked with the person who put out the earlier Siamese Temple Ball release they borrowed from; but of course they never said that in any liner notes or anything, they are just allegedly saying it third hand now when people pointed out the similarity between the 2 records. More arguments--many of Mississippi's compilations are allegedly taken from the mix CDs and comps OTHER people have put together but with no credit given. They supposedly have done this with some of the Africa Dances series. They sometimes work with others though who insist on liner notes and getting permissions--the Mortika box set and String of Pearls comp.

Steve: Your best argument can not be that their releases look "kinda fishy."

Anyone wanna weigh in on the allegations at ilxor.com, soulstrut, terminal-boredom, and waxidermy that Mississippi Records bootlegs the prior releases of others, borrows the cdrs of others and changes around the order and reissues them, and more.
