Baltimore-Set Documentary 12 O’Clock Boys Opens Friday at West End Cinema

If you missed it at AFI Docs last year, be merry: 12 O'Clock Boys opens at West End Cinema this Friday.

The 2013 film directed by first-timer Lotfy Nathan takes a look at a posse of risk-taking dirt-bike riders in a poverty-stricken section of Baltimore. At its heart is a young kid, Pug, who yearns to join the 12 O'Clock Boys' ranks, while his mother feels increasingly powerless to discourage him. Nathan documents Pug's transition from childhood to adolescence, during which the youngster seems to age much more than the three years he's filmed.

There's at least one D.C. connection here: The film's soundtrack includes two songs from local electronic duo (and my friends) Beautiful Swimmers.

Watch a 12 O'Clock Boys trailer and listen to the two Swimmers songs, "Swimmers Groove" and "Joyride," below. Showtimes and ticket information are on West End's website.

..sooo..this is a cinematic triumph that depicts a society's failure..? Are we supposed to applaud a good movie about a bad situation?
