DC Shorts: Films for Faded Television Stars

Rumbleseat

DC Shorts' Showcase 6 wants to be an emotional roller coaster—people are singing and dying, losing their minds, throwing candy hearts at each other, going ice fishing—and it's all over the place, but also pretty dull. At least a certain starship captain (no, not him, and not that one either) shows up for some levity.

Sudden Death!: Everyone sings, everyone dies, and what is John Larroquette doing here wearing a captain's hat?

The Hack: Um, Barton Fink pretty much said it all about frustrated screenwriters, so it's probably best to stay home and watch the Coen brothers' opus instead of this.

The Potential Wives of Norman Mao: I could write something pithy about the sad-sack title character's parents trying to force him into an arranged marriage, but fuck that, this one's narrated by George Takei! Godspeed, Captain Sulu.

Eva is Leaving: "Kosher this! Kosher that!" an Israeli coffeeshop owner demands of his estranged wife and sole employee—a self-defeating mantra when the world outside is very treif.

Rumbleseat: Canadian alt-rockers The Sadies fuel this surreal journey across Hell with twanged-out guitar licks.

Heart Says it All: Candy hearts do the talking in this breakup comedy, from the wishy-washy attempts to keep the relationship going to the bloody revenge when it falls apart.

Der Eisangler: Little Jonas' parents are getting divorced, but an unsupervised solo ice-fishing expedition probably is not going to get them back together.

Fake Beard: Bathroom break.
