Things I Have Learned From the Ken Burns National Parks Documentary (So Far)

burns
1) America is very, very special. How special? Did you know that we INVENTED national parks? In Europe, people who want to go camping have to bring the duke a fattened calf first, and even then they may be flogged for the enjoyment of some court dandy before they get to set up their Coleman stove.

2) Parks are the very essence of democracy. Somehow.

3) Parks are good for your soul, and our commitment to preserving them makes us way more democratic and special than Europeans.

4) John Muir and Teddy Roosevelt were in love.

Points 1-3 are made about 12 times per hour by people with denim shirts and beards. Point 4 I just kinda read between the lines a little.

Didn't turn out to be a good subject. I like Tom Hanks but he sounds so smug narrating it.
It isn't bothering me too much that the GM funding of the Ken Burns empire is said to be going away. The way Burns turned his 'Jazz' series into a bogus diatribe on race still bugs me

Thank for you watching this for me. I will not waste my time. I have some other docs that look boring but might not be; could you also watch them first?

    I smell feature!

You trivialize the importance of our national parks with your Twitter-pated, city dweller mentality. Take a trip to Yellowstone, Yosemite or the Grand Canyon and you’ll realize why points 1-3 are valid.
