DC Improv owner Mark Anderson was found dead Wednesday morning, police say. He was discovered by housekeepers in a hotel room at a Days Inn in Buckeye, Ariz. It is not known exactly when Anderson died. The business owner was reported missing by his wife May 12.
The owner of the Tempe Improv who was missing for more than three weeks was found dead Wednesday morning in a hotel room in Buckeye, police said.
Mark Anderson, 60, was reported missing by his wife on May 15 [Ed. note: previous reports say May 12], according to an Oklahoma City police report.
The family has homes in Oklahoma, Arizona and California, said Thomas Martin, a private investigator based in Newport Beach, Calif., hired by the family to find Anderson.
The cause of death is still unknown, said Lt. Jared Griffith, a Buckeye police spokesman. An autopsy is planned for Friday, he said.
Housekeepers at Days Inn, near Interstate 10 and Miller Road, entered his room and found Anderson dead, Griffith said. It was unclear how long Anderson had been at the hotel.
On May 29, family spokesperson Kim Thomas told Washington City Paper that Anderson had been suffering from acute paranoia related to a severe stress episode. New comedy club Stand Up Live had opened in downtown Phoenix, threatening Anderson’s 25-year-old club, the Tempe Improv. The venue sent out a strongly worded press release blaming Stand Up Live for its decline in business. The Tempe Improv closed June 1.
