Poets Tom Healy and Gabrielle Calvocoressi Read Tonight

Poets Tom Healy and Gabrielle Calvocoressi, both just named finalists for this year's Los Angeles Times Book Prize in Poetry, read tonight at the Arts Club of Washington.

Healy was nominated for What the Right Hand Knows, his first book of poems. He’s an active figure in the New York arts scene (he opened one of the first art galleries in Chelsea) and served as a member of President Clinton’s White House Council on AIDS. The disease  into his elegant work.

Calvocoressi was nominated for Apocalyptic Swing, her second collection of poems. She writes about small towns, the people who inhabit them, and the violence and sex that goes on behind closed doors.
