It’s a late-spring afternoon. All the cafés with outdoor seating are full. Malcolm X Park is full of flying projectiles and tottering tightrope walkers. Where’s a guy to get a little peace, quiet, and sunshine for an afternoon read? Answer: Hop on your bike or strap on your rollerskates, head to Beach Drive (closed to cars on weekends), find a spot where you can safely climb down to Rock Creek, and wade your way to the biggest, flattest, farthest-out rock you can reach. Enjoy hours of utter tranquility, hidden from passersby but not from the sun’s rays. Just don’t take my rock.
