Gravelly Point sits right across a small Potomac River channel from Reagan National Airport. Which explains the big, ominous signs that say, “NO KITES.” But even with the terrifyingly low-flying airplanes taking off and landing right nearby, you’ll see the occasional kite-flyer testing the limits of his tiny glider, massive planes full of passengers be damned. Kites aside, everyone knows Gravelly Point is a nice staging area for fresh first dates, parental visits, and future Street Fighter levels. And in a weird way, the added risk of illegal kites just makes it all the more exciting.
