A turreted, red brick building topped in copper, the SunTrust near Metro Center comes to an elegant point at the corner of New York Avenue and 15th Street NW. Inside, you’ll find museumesque marble and vintage bank charm, like brass fixtures and old-timey signage pointing you to the elevators. You will not find many people. Online banking and direct deposits have more or less killed foot traffic at this decadent branch. In close to a dozen visits, I have seen exactly two other customers, which means the bank’s grand stained glass dome is enjoyed by few outside of SunTrust’s employ. Customers are missing out on a splendid interior, and, more practically, absolutely no wait to cash a check.
