Best Tweeting D.C. Politician

Plenty of District agencies have joined the Twitter revolution, and to good effect. See a pothole that needs fixing? Tweet @DDOTDC. Wondering whether you need a permit to plant a tree in your yard? Send @DCRA a question, and they’ll let you know. (You probably do.) Wondering which politicians can’t manage to get enough signatures to get on the ballot? Follow @dcboee for the news. But the District’s actual elected officials, on the other hand, have been slow to get in on the fun. Which makes Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells the best tweeter, almost by default (with Ward 7 Councilmember Yvette Alexander a close second). Wells seems to get what Twitter is about. He’ll publicly declare, for instance, what bus he’s on or what restaurant he’s at. Or he’ll let the Twitterverse know about an upcoming hearing or meeting he’s going to. Or he’ll just let everyone know that he’s so tired that he’s zoned out watching Access Hollywood. Wells’ best tweets are when he shines a small sliver of light on the bizarre world of inter-councilmember relations: “Ran in to Marion Barry as I got off the 36 bus at JWB-asked if I had a drivers lic. He does not get multi-modal”
