Best Neighborhood Forum
Washington’s neighborhood Listservs have been home to some incredible flame wars over NIMBY issues, but they’re all hindered by the same thing: e-mail. Who wants to spend an hour ripping into that neighbor who puts his trash out one day before pick-up when everyone on the Listserv will just delete it the next day, unread? Mount Pleasant DC, on the other hand, is perfectly set up for fighting over minute issues. In a community with sundry clashing neighborhood organizations, the forum layout makes it easier to figure out who’s furious at whom. Recent topics have included residents raging over a nightclub license, with proponents using a picture of an empty street on a weekend night as evidence, and speculation over the identity of a body found in a nearby park. The whole site has the feel of a never-ending advisory neighborhood commission meeting—and what could be better than that?
