Blelvis

Blelvis—a black man famous for appropriating the music of a white man famous for appropriating the music of black men—claims to know every song Elvis Presley ever sang. But though 20 years of impersonation have added some silver to his mutton chops, Blelvis hasn’t bloated like the late-stage bacon-and-peanut-butter-sandwich King; as Blelvis will tell you, he’s just crooning for a loaf of bread. More street performer than panhandler, Blelvis is still versed in more standard street currency, and he’ll often try to sell you a discarded lighter along with “A Little Less Conversation.” Just don’t ask him to sing “Hound Dog”: After 20 years in the street-impersonation biz, the man still likes a challenge.
