Say what you will about Ronald Reagan’s economic policies, but you can’t deny the guy knows how to have a nice airport named after him. Accessibility alone could establish DCA as the region’s best airport—step off the Yellow or Blue lines and stride directly into the airy, light-filled atrium. Sure, it lacks the breadth of dining and retail options at Dulles, but National’s got the essentials, including a decent cup of coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts. Architecturally, Reagan pleases everyone, with clean, modern aesthetics in the Terminal B and C and charmingly dated mid-century details in Terminal A. With Southwest slated to double its flights out of National this year, there really is no reason to take that train to BWI anymore.
