Best Honorary Street Naming

Diego D’Ambrosio Way—Q Street NW between Connecticut Avenue and 19th Street NW
Arguably one of the most meaningful pieces of legislation during Adrian Fenty’s tenure as mayor was the Diego D’Ambrosio Way Designation Act of 2010, naming the 1900 block of Q Street NW in honor of internationally renowned barber Diego D’Ambrosio. Diego’s has become a destination for dignitaries of all stripes, including presidents, ambassadors, and Supreme Court justices; the back of my head was once featured on a segment for a Scottish TV station. It’s a charming, bustling institution that’s been in Dupont Circle for more than 45 years. Whether he’s waving to passersby or detailing his latest trip to Italy, Diego is a genuine character who dotes on everyone that walks through the door. Stylists aren’t afraid to dole out some tough love to patrons (read: me), observing it’s clear they “don’t brush or style” their hair. No matter how you voted, it’s hard to argue with Fenty’s honoring of Diego.
