Best Congressional Vending Machines

Best: Hot dog vending machine below Cannon HOB
2nd Best: Cereal vending machine in hallway between Rayburn HOB and the Capitol

Congress’ vending machines are not just any vending machines. They are vending machines that reflect local interests and are reasonably priced.

The best vending machine in the Capitol serves three kinds of hot dogs: Hillshire Farms CheddarWurst ($3), Kunzler hot dogs ($2.50), and Oscar Meyer ($2). The hot dog vending machine not only delivers, as advertised, a hot dog "from chilled to grilled in under one minute," but it also has a glass front that allows you to see the hot dog's tasty progress.

The second-best vending machine in Congress sells single-serving sugar cereal—Corn Pops, Apple Jacks, Frosted Flakes, Raisin Bran Crunch, Cocoa Krispies, Fruit Loops—and Shenandoah's Pride milk (2 percent and Ultimate Chocolate). It's tasty and cheap—$1.50 for the cereal, $1.50 for the Virginia-sourced milk—and is also frequently out of stock.
