Best Bar Snacks
1610 20th St. NW. (202) 332-3722
Seat yourself at Darlington House’s bar and find in front of you a gleaming tray of olives and, next to it, a pile of housemade potato chips. Chances are you won’t be able to wait until your drink is served to dive in. In a city with frightfully few bars that provide snacks in the first place, Darlington House stands out for quantity and quality. The selection goes better with most alcohols than, say, Policy’s Old Bay peanuts or the W Hotel bar’s house nuts mix. Plus, no one seems to judge you much if you eat more than you drink. The olives range in variety from kalamata to pimento-stuffed green; an ever-attentive bartender will frequently clear the small plate onto which you’ve unceremoniously spit pits. And the salty, oily potato chips are palm-sized—perfect for soaking up that pricey Manhattan you’re imbibing.
